Who We Are

We are Tennis! The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the recognized leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the U.S. The Hawaii Pacific Section is one of 17 geographic Sections of the USTA. Incorporated in 1973, the Hawaii Pacific Section embraces over 7,800 individual members and 109 organizational members in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas. In addition, the Hawaii Pacific Section is further comprised of four Community Tennis Organizations: Kauai, Maui, East Hawaii & West Hawaii. The Hawaii Pacific Section is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to carrying out the goals of the national association within its region, particularly with respect to promoting tennis opportunities for juniors and adults of all abilities and all cultural backgrounds.

Who You Are

 

  • Bachelor's Degree:  English, Communications, Business, Nonprofit Management, or related fields.
  • Grant Writing Experience: Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or related areas, with a proven track record of securing grants being highly valued.
  • Strong Writing and Communication Skills: Ability to write clear, concise, and persuasive proposals, and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Research and Analytical Abilities: Identifying funding opportunities, understanding the target audience and funder priorities, and gathering necessary data and information.
    • Strong research skills and familiarity with grant databases and online resources.
  • Organizational and Project Management Skills: Managing multiple applications, deadlines, and requirements effectively.
    • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to grant guidelines and compliance requirements.
  • Financial Literacy: Understanding and developing budgets for proposals.
    • Experience developing project budgets and understanding financial documentation.
  • Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills: Working effectively with internal teams and external funders and stakeholders. 
  • Certifications:  Certifications like the Grant Professional Certified (GPC) can enhance credibility.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in grant management software and research databases is often beneficial.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software (e.g., project management tools, grant tracking systems).

 

Salary: $75,000 / plus healthcare benefits

The Role: Grant Writer, USTA Hawaii Pacific

 

Location: Honolulu, Hawaii

FLSA Status:Full-Time/Exempt

Reports To: Executive Director

 

Grant writers are crucial for the success and sustainability of organizations dedicated to making a positive impact on society by securing essential funding for their programs and initiatives.

 

Key duties and responsibilities:
 

● Research Funding Opportunities: Identifying grants that align with the organization's needs and objectives to raise money for the following programs:

  • Schools: USTA provides the equipment at no cost, the curriculum to PE Teachers and training to physical educators in schools for their during and after school PE program.
  • Red Ball: With modified equipment and a slightly shorter court, this social experience is designed to bring new players to the courts and have them playing the game in 10 minutes!
  • Community Programs: We offer affordable beginner and advanced tennis classes & lessons at 16+ park sites for youth and adults. Racquets and balls are provided.

● Grant Writing and Proposal Development: Crafting compelling narratives, gathering data, and refining applications to clearly articulate the organization's mission, goals, and impact.

 

● Compliance and Reporting: Ensuring all proposals meet funder requirements, tracking grant spending, and preparing and submitting reports to ensure compliance with funding agreements and deadlines.

 

● Collaboration and Communication: Working closely with various teams (program directors, finance, leadership) to develop strong proposals and maintain relationships with funders and stakeholders.

 

● Strategy and Support: Contributing to the overall fundraising strategy and supporting other fundraising initiatives.
